Detect Mesothelioma Using Mesothelioma Biopsy

Andrei Toth

There are more people than even coming forth with cases of mesothelioma. What was once a very misunderstood and often misdiagnosed disease is something which more is being discovered about every day. This includes all of the different kinds of detection procedures that you might go through. Among the best ways that you will be able to get the help that you will need in order to make sure that what you are suffering from is mesothelioma is to perform a mesothelioma biopsy. This will determine without a doubt that the cells in question are cancerous so that the proper treatment can be administered.

Whenever looking at mesothelioma biopsy, you will find that there are three different ways in which the biopsy can be performed. These different biopsies are used depending on how severe the illness is, or the area which is affected by the cancerous cells. The doctor you are seeing should know the best way to provide you with the help that you will need. They will either perform an incisional biopsy, an excisional biopsy or a needle aspiration biopsy. It is important to know a little about each one to know what you are facing.

Incisional Biopsy

There are a few times in which you might have an issue which is in an easy to access location. This is when a doctor will use an incisional biopsy. This kind of mesothelioma biopsy will help to remove just a section of the tissue so that it can be properly tested. This procedure is also called a core biopsy. The procedure requires that you will be put under so that the doctor will be able to remove all of the tissue that they will need in order to make a proper assessment.

Excisional Biopsy

There are other times in which it is simply not possible for you to be able to get a small amount of tissue from a core or incisional biopsy. This is when the doctor will opt to use excisional biopsy. This is where the doctor will remove all of the infected area to test it. This is normal whenever the affected area is in the pericardium, peritoneum or the pleura. It is possible to remove all of the tissue because this is not an area which is necessary for anything to be at.

Needle Aspiration Biopsy

The most preferred method of testing for mesothelioma is to use mesothelioma biopsy. This is because the doctor is looking for the most effective possible way that they will be able to test the different tumors that they find without causing any kind of risk to the patient. The doctor will use a fine needle in order to collect some of the cancer cells from the tumor in question. This method requires the least amount of prep and the least amount of recovery time. Of course, if the test comes back positive, it is likely that it will be followed by more intensive testing methods.
