Brian Bedell

It is an unfortunate fact that there is a percentage of the population who have been exposed to asbestos at one point or another. The fibers which can become lodged in the tissues of the body will cause certain illnesses including mesothelioma, asbestosis, and other kinds of cancers.

While there is no cure for these diseases as of yet, there are many different treatment options which can help to slow down the disease and treat the different symptoms which a patient might be suffering from.

One of the treatments which patients are recommended is to switch their diet. This is because there are certain foods which have been found to have a great effect in treating cancer which is caused by asbestos. Each of the different foods which are recommended have their own specific reasons why they are good for your body and can help to eliminate the types of symptoms which you might be feeling. Combinations of the different foods are normally suggested so that you will be able to get the most out of the change in diet that you are succumbing to.

Green Tea

This tea in particular has been identified as having many antioxidants. The tea is beneficial to your body not only in that it will help in the reduction of new cancer cells. It is also beneficial in that it EGCG which has been identified as a blocker for the growth of cancerous cells. These two characteristics of green tea make it a great choice not just for those who are suffering from cancer. It is a great choice for those who feel like they might be at risk of developing cancer because of the line of work that they might have been in.

Cruciferous Vegetables

These vegetables have been identified as foods like radishes, cauliflower and broccoli. They have a host of properties which make them not only good for your body, but good at fighting off the cancers which are developed as a result of asbestos exposure. They contain elements of phytochemicals, glucosinolates and antioxidants. These cancer fighting elements can help the body to not only fight off cancer, they can also help to promote overall good health.

Whole Grains and Seeds

Certain foods like flaxseed have been known to slow the growth of tumors in the body. The whole grains also help to make sure that the body is able to have enough fiber to wash out any polyps or excess cells which might be developing in the digestive tract. By eliminating these developing tumors, the advance of cancer may be slowed to a crawl.

Another group of foods which are recommended to asbestos cancer patients is green leafy vegetables. These include things like spinach, chard, kale and collard greens.
