Mesothelioma is cancer which is hard to treat for several reasons. This is done so that a drug which has been shown to be effective in any way can be improved upon and redeveloped in the quest to find the best and most effective form of treatment.

The development of new drugs using the data gained from research being done on this cancer is one reason as to why it is so important for new research to keep being funded and conducted on an ongoing basis.

Why Drugs are Preferred for Treatment

Many researchers are concentrated on using drugs to treat this aggressive form of cancer since they are less invasive than other forms of treatment, such as chemotherapy. This means that a patient will suffer from fewer side effects using drugs than they will other more radical forms of treatment. Fewer side effects also means that patients will not have their immune systems further compromised and they are better able to fight off the effects of the cancer.

Another reason is because it is much easier to apply new knowledge gained from the research of this cancer to the development of drugs as opposed to other forms of treatment. Any of the studies which are being conducted which lead to discoveries in how this cancer grows and how certain substances effect the growth of the cancer can later be used in the development and manufacturing of new treatment drugs.
