Symptoms of Mesothelioma to Watch Out For

Joe Thomas

Mesothelioma is a very difficult disease to deal with. It is highly invasive, shows little signs of improving even with good treatment techniques and is difficult to spot. This causes a severe difficulty in treating the illness because the earlier you are able to diagnose the disease, the better your chances are of treating it effectively. Even with diagnosing mesothelioma early, it is highly difficult to treat the disease and to recover from the resulting effects it has on the body. The biggest problem that people run into is that the disease they are suffering from shows up 20 to 50 years after the exposure to asbestos that caused it.

Masquerading symptoms can make it difficult to diagnose any disease. This is exactly the case when dealing with mesothelioma. The symptoms that suggest mesothelioma are often misdiagnosed and in some cases the disease is never diagnosed and the patient will die while waiting for a cure. Even once diagnosed, the disease is uncommonly difficult to treat. The symptoms you will feel in association with the disease will be determined by the level of severity of the disease itself as well as the part of the body it is affecting.

Symptoms of Mesothelioma in the Pleura

The pleura is the area which surrounds the lungs. There are two layers to the pleura and a liquid which separates the two. This liquid is normally what is affected by mesothelioma in that is hardens and causes problems such as:

-Weight loss -Coughing up blood -Feeling tired or dizzy -Coughing more than usual and wheezing -Difficulty breathing -Pain in the chest wall -Fluid surrounding the lung (Pleural effusion)

Symptoms of Tumor Production

Often when dealing with mesothelioma or any other kind of cancer, it is possible for tumors to develop. These can be difficult to find because they do not normally show signs until they are at very late stages which will cause a lot of problems when they are removed by surgery. Chief among the problems is the fact that the tumors cannot be stopped from spreading even after they have been removed from the body. Symptoms you are suffering from late tumors include:

-Weight Loss -Bowel function problems -Abdomen swelling -Unusual fluid buildup in the abdomen -Pain in the Abdomen

More Severe Cases of Mesothelioma

As cases of mesothelioma worsen, the symptoms you are likely to feel will also change. It is important that you mention all symptoms you are feeling to your doctor right away. If you start to feel any of the symptoms listed here, they may not necessarily mean that you have mesothelioma, but the likelihood that you have mesothelioma is much greater. Symptoms of even worse cases of mesothelioma include:

-Severe fluid buildup in the abdomen -Blood clots in arteries in the lungs -Pleural Effusion -Blood sugar levels which are lower than normal -Yellowing of the skin and/or of the eyes -Severe bleeding in different organs in the body -Blood clots in the veins.
