Do You Have Symptoms of Mesothelioma?

If you have had exposure in your past to asbestos, irradiation or any of the fibrous silicates which cause mesothelioma you should know the symptoms of mesothelioma. It is also a good idea to know these symptoms even if you have no knowledge of being exposed to any of the elements which cause this disease. This is because some people have lived or worked in areas which have been contaminated with asbestos unbeknownst to them.

Respiratory Related Symptoms

Mesothelioma can remain latent in the body for 2 to 5 decades. There are even some cases when it has remained latent even longer than 5 decades after exposure to elements which show up as symptoms of mesothelioma. Once the disease begins to manifest symptoms start to appear. Most people with this disease will experience breathing problems. Many of these breathing issues are shortness of breath which is often accompanied by a cough.

As mesothelioma progresses a cough can develop producing a fluid from the lungs or even blood. Those who experience these types of symptoms most likely have developed tumors from this cancer in their lungs. These individuals also have a risk of experiencing a collapsed lung as a result of the continued development of tumors and cancerous masses.

Often Ignored Symptoms

Jaundice and low blood sugar are also symptoms of mesothelioma people suffer from. Many times these symptoms are thought by the individual to be attributed to other problems. Many times people think that the jaundice or low blood sugar they are experiencing from the cancer are unrelated to any other health issue. This is why many people who have these symptoms as part of developing mesothelioma wait until other more sever symptoms to occur before going to a doctor to be diagnosed or treated.
